SuperGood’s Mission: Less Animal Stress

My name is Eric Calisto and I am the President of SuperGood Co. SuperGood Co. originally began as Colorful Dog Corporation in 2017 with a mission to advocate for the fair treatment of animals around the world. My wife (Kristen) and I started the organization at the same time as planning our wedding because we wanted to use our wedding as a way to get initial donations to the organization. Instead of gifts we requested donations be made to the newly founded non-profit and while these donations were greatly appreciated and distributed to like-minded non-profits, we quickly felt the need to better define our goals and how we could improve the lives of animals in areas that weren’t already being addressed by other non-profits.

It took countless hours and several years behind the scenes, coming up with different ideas, testing different services, and more. These ranged from universal pet adoption applications to fundraising services that could be used for pet related organizations. Throughout the years of working on finding the right service to have the best impact we continued to find animals in need along the way. Whether it was a rabbit stuck in a septic system, a possum hit and then neglected on the highway, or goose with a broken wing — it all of a sudden hit us that our passion was wildlife. While Colorful Dog was created to help all animals in need, wildlife was something we felt we could work on directly. Wildlife is also an area that lacks funding and support — especially as wildlife habitats continue to be destroyed for subdivisions in cities and even in once-rural areas around the globe.

While the passion was identified, the way to raise money to support the idea was not. The problem with traditional fundraising is that it is competitive with other organizations who have like-minded goals. Even though the goal in this case is to help wildlife, that absolute does not mean that we want less people involved in other pro-animal causes. So we decided to find a way to raise money without competing and hopefully, instead, finding ways to bring additional money into the area. This is when SuperGood started.

Most likely you wound up on this page due to SuperGood Pet Portraits — one of our fundraising programs. So, here are some more details on how that program came to be:

We have a dog who is the nicest person we’ve ever met and we have had several portraits done of her. These portraits are always awesome and I am blown away by people’s ability to see detail and make drawings look so realistic. One day I just decided to try out drawing a pet portrait and it looked absolutely terrible, but Kristen has always found coloring pictures relaxing and a good way to wind down. She even has an app on her phone that is color-by-number where you just tap the spots to fill in the colors. So she colored the picture and, while she couldn’t fix my disaster of a drawing, the mix of her good coloring with my bad drawing had a goofy result. I loved it and I wondered if other people would too. So I created an Instagram account to share the pictures and thought maybe we could raise a few dollars here and there for the non-profit by making these SuperGood portraits for others. We were overwhelmed with the response. People loved the pictures and the requests starting coming in. And the awesome part — people started asking how to donate to the cause before we even started asking for donations. That’s when we decided we could use this social media page to share humorous pictures while also advocating for a variety of animal causes. We could then use these funds to help directly and indirectly. Directly, we will help wildlife where we can. This means using some of the funds to buy wooded areas that we won’t let be torn down, to build ponds, barriers that protect animals from roadways, etc. And then indirectly — by sharing some of the funds with other non-profits who help in areas that aren’t wildlife related — traditional dog and cat rescues, exotic animal sanctuaries, etc.

With your help, we can do SuperGood for the animals who need us. Thank you for taking the time to read our story!
